The Voice of the Illini Brian Barnhart joins the program to preview the Big 10 Tourney, and break down the Illini season. Brian reviews the team\'s biggest surprises and biggest disappointments, and talks about the players to watch next season, both for the Illini, and in the Big 10.

Illinois guard Trent Meacham joins Boz & Mr. G to talk Illini hoop. Trent talks about his decision to transfer to Illinois, why he thinks the team improved so much this season, and also gives us a preview of the Big 10 Tourney. Boz & Mr. G also give their picks for the Big 10 tourney, and speculate on how the tourney could affect the Illini seeding in the Big Dance.

Brian Barnhart Barnhart

Barnhart begins his sixth season as the \"Voice of the Illini\" after a long stint in professional baseball, including two years as the play-by-play voice of the Anaheim Angels. Barnhart serves as the voice of the Illini Sports Network, providing play-by-play coverage of football and men\'s basketball and as the host of the statewide \"Ron Zook Show\" call-in program every Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. A native of nearby Tolono, Barnhart graduated from Unity High School and Liberty University before beginning a 15-year career in professional baseball in 1986. He served as the play-by-play voice of the Lynchburg Mets and Salem Buccaneers before moving up to the Oklahoma City 89ers, the Class AAA affiliate of the Texas Rangers, from 1988-94. Barnhart did high school football and other sport play-by-play for 11 years and was also the voice for Oklahoma Baptist basketball from 1992-94 and Oklahoma City Blazers minor league hockey in 1993. From 1996-98, he handled news, sports and play-by-play at WWLS in Oklahoma City. In 1998, Barnhart was named the play-by-play announcer for the Angels and spent two full seasons with the American League club before returning to the Champaign-Urbana area in 2000. He currently is a news and sports announcer at WDWS-AM 1400 in Champaign.

2007-08 Junior: Academic All-Big Ten Started 31 games at shooting guard, averaging 29.6 minutes per game. Second on the Illini in scoring on the season, averaging 10.1 points. Third on the team in assists with 2.3 apg. Shot 40 percent from 3-point range (74-185) on the year, ranking 11th Eighth in the conference with an average of 2.2 in the Big Ten. Scored in double figures 18 times. Had three 20-point games with a career-high 26 points vs. Weber State (Dec. 1), 24 vs. Tennessee State (Dec. 30) and 21 vs. Minnesota (March 8). Shot a perfect 5-5 from 3-point land at Minnesota (Feb. 12)



2006-07 Sophomore: Academic All-Big Ten selection. Averaged 5.0 points, Appeared in all 35 games, starting 12 times ... 1.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists on the season. Ranked 10th in the Big Ten in 3-point shooting at 40.2 percent (35-87). Tied school record for 3-pointers in a game with eight treys vs. Florida A&M on Nov. 19 en route to a season-high 24 points.



2005-06 Redshirt: Transferred to Illinois following one season at Dayton and sat out the season per NCAA regulations.



HIGH SCHOOL


Earned four varsity letters. Averaged 18.1.  MVP and Champaign-Urbana News-Gazette All-Area Player of the Year. First-team All-State selection by the News-Gazette and IBCA.



PERSONAL


Born Sept. 26, 1985. Parents are Stu and Susan Meacham. Earned bachelor\\\'s degree in sport management in August, now working toward a master\\\'s degree in human resource education. Engaged to Theresa Lisch, a junior guard on the resource education. Has two sisters. Big 12 Conference scholar-athlete as a high school junior and senior. Biggest thrill in sports was winning the 2004 AAU National Championship. Favorite player is Steve Nash. Involved in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
