As their reigns draw to a close, Laine Berry and Jayna Altman tell Valerie how they have spent the last year. Then, they have some advice for this years contestants, as they share how they each prepped for the personal interview portion of the pageant ( with some help from Valerie), and how they got into shape for the fitness portion of the competition.

Laine and Jayna have some more advice for this years group of International contestants, as they talk about their experiences in the Fashion Wear and Evening Gown portions of the competition. They also talk about how they selected their gowns, some common mistakes they have seen in this area, and the best way to approach the on-stage interview.

Tammy McDonald, Mrs. International 2004

Tammy McDonald gives us a view of the International Pageant from the judges table, as she reveals what they are looking for from the contestants in the personal interview, fitness and evening gown competioions. She also reveals what can push an outfit from out of the box to over the top in the fashion competition, the key to getting a great score in the on-stage interview, and why you need to be careful about what you are posting about yourself online.

Jayna Altman

Born severely premature, Jayna Altman spent the first three months of her life in the intensive care unit due to numerous medical complications. Her survival left her with a profound hearing loss. Doctors predicted as a result of such complications that Jayna would never learn to speak, or obtain beyond a third grade education. Despite such predictions, Jayna learned to speak beautifully as a result of intensive auditory verbal therapy for 12 years. She went on to graduate with distinction and honors from the University of California, San Diego; and has completed classes towards a doctorate in Audiology. She credits her success to following the beliefs in two programs she developed – Abilities First, and I CAN: Inspiring Confidence in Abilities Now. Jayna developed I CAN: Inspiring Confidence in Abilities Now when she saw a rising need in parents who needed a message of empowerment in living with a different ability (disability). However, she quickly realized that early identification and appropriate diagnosis were essential as well. With that in mind, she developed Abilities First, which focuses on the educational and health aspects through three phases – Identification and Intervention, Education and Knowledge, and Utilizing Surrounding Support Services.
