After postdoctoral research focusing on dark matter and cosmic structure formation and a number of teaching stints, he became a physics professor at Lewis & Clark College and a professional science communicator.



He regularly appears on television and radio spots, teaching the world about the latest news and discoveries in science. J. MARVIN HERNDON ,Ph.D. is an American interdisciplinary scientist, Profiled in Current Biography,





along with Chief Justice of the U. S. Supreme Court William H. Rehnquist, dubbed a “maverick geophysicist” by The Washington Post, and armed with a unique
knowledge of the nature of science and the ways to make important discoveries, passed down through generations of master scientists, Herndon’s professional life has been a step-by-step logical progression of understanding and discovery, uncovering deep-rooted mistakes in geophysics, in astrophysics, and in science management.



He has, among other things, disclosed a different understanding of the nature of Earth’s formation and internal composition, and demonstrated the feasibility of a planetocentric nuclear fission reactor as energy source and production mechanism for the geomagnetic field. Herndon published a new geodynamic concept, called Whole-Earth Decompression Dynamics, a consequence of Earth’s early formation as a Jupiter-like gas giant that explains the myriad of observations attributed to plate tectonics without requiring mantle convection.
