Gildersleeve, a pompous windbag and antagonist from Fibber McGee and Molly. \"Gildy\" grew so popular that Kraft Foods—promoting its Parkay margarine—sponsored a new series featuring Harold Peary\'s somewhat mellowed and always befuddled Gildersleeve as the head of his own family.
